Global Host launches inexpensive, secured VPN service
When we use public wifi hotspots, we are completely open to being snooped on by anybody running the network, especially identity thieves. Malicious people can set up a WiFi network and intercept websites such as Google.com or your bank transparently to you. By using their WiFi connection, they can snoop on your traffic and capture your login information. If you ever use public WiFi, you are very susceptible to this form of attack. It may have already happened to you.
Using a VPN solves all of this. If you use public wifi (and in many cases even if you do not), it is now more important than ever to have your Internet traffic encrypted. It's very easy to secure your connection, no matter where you are.
What does this do for me?
- Enables you to use public wifi without worry. Blindly trusting wifi connections opens you up to viruses and identity theft.
- You can use websites without having your searches logged by external sites like Google (unless you login to them). Merely visiting Google.com will not link those searches to your Google account, which means you will not see targeted ads based on your searches.
- Bypass web censorship and content surveillance. Using a VPN hides your traffic from anybody trying to snoop on your connection.
- Access Netflix/Hulu/streaming content when you are traveling abroad.
- Provide security for your VoIP calls, which are typically insecure and unencrypted by default.
It makes you safe when using a network connection. All traffic to and from your computer/device and the VPN are encrypted, giving you privacy. Local DNS on the network you are using is bypassed and our VPN's DNS servers are used instead, giving you security. You can use any public network and securely browse from your laptop, tablet, or phone. If the local network tries to impersonate our VPN, the OpenVPN client will warn you and stop the connection. Nobody listening to your traffic will know what sites you visit or the content of any of the transmissions. Your traffic will appear to be coming from our VPN servers instead of your own.
We don't keep any logs of activity, discriminate against any traffic (though we ask that everybody obey the law), and actively protect your anonymity and security.
This sounds great, but how easy is it to use?
Extremely easy. Once you install the OpenVPN client and our certificate and configuration file, you can simply launch the application and login. Once logged in, you can visit our Connection Tester and verify your connection is secure.
What does it cost?
Next to nothing. Service is as low as $4.99/month per user for up to 5 devices and unlimited traffic (within reason).
Monthly: $9.99/month
Quarterly: $19.95 ($6.65/month)
Yearly: $59.95 ($4.99/month)
What VPN exit nodes do you support? Where can my traffic appear to come from?
We have VPN exit notes in Virginia, Washington, Chile, England, Holland, Hong Kong, Russia (Moscow), and Spain. We are launching more nodes all the time, so please contact us with special requests.
Don't leave home without securing your Internet connection, especially on your mobile device.
How do I configure your service?
When you subscribe to our VPN service, you will be emailed a special client configuration file. Download the OpenVPN client for your device, then open up the email on your device. When you open the attachment, it should automatically import into OpenVPN. From there, login with your name and password, and you are can now start browsing securely.
It is a good idea to always test your connection. A green page means you are good to go, while a red page indicates you are not using our VPN.
